• Born - 31 Jan 1919 , Cairo , Georgia, US
• Death - 24 october 1972 , North Stamford , Connecticut, US
1.) He was youngest of his siblings, and was very athletic.
2.) As a young man, he served in the army but not treated well in the army because of his race.
3.) Many people treated African- American poorly and were unfair to him.
4.) After army, he began playing professional baseball.
At that time, baseball leagues were separated by race (segregated).
5.) He played so well that he get noticed and became the first African- American in modern Major league Baseball (MLB).
6.) He played his first game for the Brookyln Dodgers in 1947.
7.) Many people were angry about Jackie Robinson playing in the Major league.
Many people wanted to keep the leagues segregated(separated by race).
He knew that this practice is not fair.He stayed positive and never fought back.
He focused on his game and became one of the best baseball players of all time.He never gave up.

8.) In his 10- year MLB career, Robinson won the Rookie of the year Award in 1947.
9.) He won the National league Most Valuable Player Award in 1949.
10.) He was the first black player to be honoured with the awards.

13.) Jackie Robinson Day was adopted on 15 April 2004.
On that day, every player on every team wear No. 42.
